FULL MOON PHENOMENON Validated

“O, swear not by the moon, the fickle moon, the inconstant moon, that monthly changes in her circle orb….” ― William Shakespeare

Our closest “planet”, Earth’s satellite, the Moon changes zodiac signs about every two and a half days It completes its cycle around the Earth in approximately 28 days. The Moon’s impact on the oceans’ tides is well known. Scientists have also noted the Moon’s influence on living organisms.

Depending on the particular planets it makes angular relationships with, and its phase in its monthly cycle, the Moon appears to influence our general mood and behavior. Several authors have noted a sharp increase in visits to emergency rooms around the Full Moon.

The August 2013 issue of the scientific journal Current Biology stated what many of us have also validated— the lunar cycle modulates human sleep and melatonin rhythms.

In this study, the researchers found that around the Full Moon, brain activity related to deep sleep dropped by 30% and the study participants also showed reductions in their levels of melatonin, a hormone that helps control the natural sleep–wake cycle. On average, participants’ sleep quality was about 20% worse during the Full Moon as compared with the New Moon. One reason we feel tired when the Moon is full!
